Translators' Training Course

This past week marked the start of another Translators Training Course (TTC) here in Ukarumpa. Papua New Guinean Bible translators from 13 different language groups from over the country are attending the course to sharpen their translation skills. There are three different grade levels being taught at this five-week course. Some of the translators are just beginning their work, while others have been working on translation for a long time, and are now studying more advanced subjects, such as Greek.

While I'm not directly involved in TTC, I had a chance to sit in on classes on Friday, and I will have a chance to help out. During the five-week course, members of each language group will have the chance to take a small digital recorder to the dorm with them and record some of their own language onto it. After they are done, I'll work with them to rerecord some sections of their stories and dialogues in clearer speech and with an oral translation into Tok Pisin. These recordings will be sent home with the participants, and will also be archived in Australia.

Please pray for TTC, as it is difficult for some of the participants in the first level to understand and catch onto everything that is going on. Some of them only have a sixth-grade education and are not used to being in a classroom setting. Also pray for the teachers and other staff, that they will communicate clearly and understand the needs of the students. Please pray that my small part in this will go smoothly.
