You may know that I live in the town of Ukarumpa. You probably don't know that there are two Ukarumpas: the small town I live in and its smaller village neighbor. Right now, both Ukarumpas are grieving (and praying) about some recent events in Ukarumpa village.
For months (years?), there have been tensions among people living in the Aiyura Valley, where both Ukarumpas are located. This past weekend, the tensions turned into violence again when the leader of one side hired men to burn down houses and shoot people in Ukarumpa Village. The gunmen/arsonists were successful in destroying some houses, and severely injuring people, both those involved in the conflict and innocent people. (Fortunately no one was killed.)
The conflict is heavy on the hearts and minds of many people in (big) Ukarumpa, who have friends and employees from Ukarumpa village. Please join us in pray for all those involved - both the victims and the perpetrators. Pray that God will work miraculously in this situation and draw all those involved to Himself.
**Don't worry - I'm not in danger. Leaders on both sides of the conflict have assured us that we are not a target and they don't have anything against us. None of the violence has happened in (big) Ukarumpa, where I live.

So sorry to hear of the unrest in the village and its tragic results. Praying for you and all those who were involved and affected by the conflict. Enjoyed Juliann's account of the survey trip on her blog, also. Thanks to you both for sharing with those half a world away and allowing us to pray and learn about PNG.
